Had a hard time getting to Naples from Rome. I think I could have biked quicker.
Got to the train station in Rome early. After waiting for the departure board to update I notice that my train is 70 minutes late. After waiting 90 minutes the train finally shows up.
I try to board, but there is no visible way to open the train door. I yell at the attendants for help, but they are no help. Time is ticking and I’m worried the train is going to start to leave, but luckily a random woman comes up and presses a mystery button hidden between the train cars and the doors open.
After boarding and hanging my bike, I notice someone is in my assigned seat. No problem there are tons of empty seats so I just pick an empty row.
After about 10 minutes I check google maps to make sure everything is ok, but everything is not ok. We are traveling in the opposite direction of Naples. Goddammit Italy.
I make the decision to get off at the next stop. Luckily the ticket agent speaks good English. She helps me buy new tickets to Naples. I also ask if the train line I boarded ever goes to Naples and she says no. The electronic ticketing system sold me a bogus ticket. I double check that my email confirmation says it starts in Rome and end in Naples.
Finally arrive in Naples at 5pm when I should have arrived at Noon. A 2 hour train ride took 7 hours.
